Title: RE: [Lwapp] Another Way to Think about CAPWAP

<PRC> Basically, that's quite close. The protocol used in LWAPP is 802.11
over UDP, similar to
how L2TP works (which is PPP over UDP). Note that the LWAPP protocol is
modeled after the 802.11
protocol - unlike L2TP which is really designed for dial-up (although it is
used for more than
just dial-up today).

jak>>Is L2TP tied to PPP or could it be used and/or modified for CAPWAP?

<PRC> We'd have to look at the call flow - it doesn't work for my implementation
without significant modifications of the L2TP state machine, but that doesn't mean
we shouldn't look at it.

<PRC> Multiple reasons. One is to push down policies (allow traffic for a
particular
MAC address), while others are for configuration reasons (change channel to
x on radio y).

jak>>OK. So that means there is still some signaling independent of the
tunnel.

<PRC> Correct.
